But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. 2 Peter 2: 1-3

Let me start off giving folks a little history lesson and then I will go into my point. There was a point in history where people were not allowed to own copies of the Bible. In fact, the leaders of the Roman church practically held the scriptures hostage because they wanted power and control, including money to be given to them by the people. They wanted the people to stay ignorant of the scriptures so they didn’t realize that the things they were doing went against the word of God. Many people went along like sheep and did as they were told. However, a few people who obtained copies of the Bible did not. They fought! They knew that what the church was doing went against God’s word and they called the leaders out. They put their very lives on the line preaching the truth and waking up those who had been in a sleep. Those people did not realize they were doing anything wrong. They trusted the church leaders or for the most part, feared them and the repercussions of speaking out. My point is that they were ignorant, but we are not able to use that excuse. We don’t have to fight for a Bible in the United States, although some countries will execute/imprison you over one. We can go to a hotel/library and find one. Even so, I STILL see people posting the most ignorant memes on Facebook concerning the Bible. Memes that are either flat out lies or completely out of context. I see them get posted OVER and OVER.  They even claim that a “Pastor” stood before his church and said these lies. I don’t doubt this could be true. After all, the people believed the Roman church. However, they at the very least had the threat of their life being taken. They didn’t have a system of checks and balances. Not us! We are just too flat out lazy to read. If you don’t believe in the Bible, I am not speaking to you. I am speaking to people who “claim” to read the Bible and can’t even open it up to research if the meme they are passing on is true. Stop allowing yourself to be herded along, because when you do stand before God one day, ignorance will not be an excuse. You have every opportunity to know the truth. Don’t allow others to think and talk for you.

Eternity Matters

Of course we should love our enemies, just as Jesus commanded.  But real love isn’t patronizing and indulgent, it is having their long-term best interests at heart.

And we need to simultaneously love the victims of our enemies because they are our neighbors as well.

The “Christian” Left pro-abortion / pro-LGBTQX extremists are obviously the ideological enemies of Christians.  So we need to love them and pray for their conversions.  But we should never stop fighting their evils.  Over 3,500+ human beings — our neighbors — are killed each day because of them.  School children are taught all sorts of perverted things each day because of them.  Religious freedoms, freedom of speech and parental rights are lost because of them.  And so much more!

So loving your enemies doesn’t mean ignoring their sinful agenda and their countless victims.  We need to love God first and speak his truth.

At the tender age of nineteen, I found myself literally terrified as I stared into my future via the positive lines of a home pregnancy test. I walked down the stairs of my three bedroom apartment and explained to my fiance that I was in fact pregnant. I then proceeded to fling the test itself at him to ensure he had a closer view. He was grossed out, as it did in fact slip my mind that I had just peed on it. It was not lost on him though. I never could truly understand at the time what having a child or children would entail. I especially could not predict the amount of laughter that would be brought into my life. It is so easy to see the burdensome side of having kids.Yes, it is true that they absorb. They absorb time, finances and energy. However, just as they take, they give back so much more. These are the things that women do not hear about when making decisions about parenthood. I have found my children to be a 24 hour comedy show and I enjoy every minute.
Now for a little more truth about my pregnancies. I thought that it would be less scary with each following pregnancy. That couldn’t be more false. I was scared every time I read those “positive” results. It’s interesting that it’s called “positive” because that is not at all what I was feeling. It wasn’t so much my own thoughts I was afraid of, but the thoughts of others. I worried more about their warped thoughts about me rather than the truth I knew about myself. I knew that if God had me give birth to a child, then he would use that child for his purpose if I brought them up knowing his ways. Do not ever convince yourself that God cannot take your mess and turn it into a message. Maybe you think that your baby has no purpose if born out of wedlock. That is not true. The Bible says that God works everything together for his good. That includes the things that we think he wouldn’t use. God took a Christian murderer and used him to preach the gospel. We see the murderer, while he sees the potential.
I don’t live in a luxurious home and have very few pairs of pants that don’t have holes in the knees. It is rare for me to get a shower without a knock on the door. It is rare for me to speak on the phone without sounding like I have Tourette’s syndrome due to talking between my children and the person on the other line. Even so, some people think that I am the scum of the earth because of what I lack. To my children, I am a queen because of what I gave and continue to give up to make them happy. When my self-esteem is low, my son looks at me and says “You are beautiful mommy.” When I am in a bad mood, my oldest daughter will say something completely off the wall that causes me to erupt in laughter. When I feel unwanted, my middle daughter will ask me to lay with her or show up at a classroom party. In those moments, my children’s purpose brings me purpose.
So please know that your child may not be something you planned, but God has a plan and role for them in your life. It’s something that will take time for you to see, but one day you will look at your child with no regret’s. You will understand fully the reason you kept them.
Today I ask you not to place your trust in what I am writing, but in what God has promised. The Bible says he takes care of the birds of the air and how much greater are we than those birds? Keep your child and trust that if God allows it to be, he will provide you with everything necessary to take care of them. As a friend once told me, “If it’s God’s will, it’s God’s bill (Angie Jeffers).” I hope today that you will make the choice to keep your child. There are too many children in heaven that never knew their mothers. Yes, your baby has a soul at the earliest time of conception. For the Bible says “”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:520140825_065444

Ok, so I am certain that I am not the ONLY one who has some type of routine when they walk into a women’s bathroom. I was speaking with my dad recently about this topic, as he is a germ aphobe and I am quickly becoming one. I haven’t quite got to the point where I  am wearing the white Mickey Mouse gloves around when I go to public places. However, I am thinking of packing a pair in my purse especially for the experience of using public bathrooms.

So anywho, I was explaining to my father that every time I go to a public bathroom, it feels like I am picking the lesser of 2…3 or 4 evils. It’s almost like entering a game show of some sorts. “And behind door number 1, we have a hair! Is she going to choose door number 1? NO! She is moving on to door number 2. What do we have for her? Looks like this model has been overstuffed with toilet paper! No flushing going on in that stall today! She is moving on to door number 3! This is her last chance. If she doesn’t choose this door, someone could slide right in to door number one and she will be stuck. Door number 3….OHHHH! Someone couldn’t handle their spices today! Door number one is looking more appealing than ever, but it looks like someone already scooped it up. She will wait!”

Then of course when you get in there, you find out if all of that cardio and strength training exercises have been paying off as you hover above the seat. And then comes the flush, if one comes at all! I went to a bathroom recently that had one of those toilets with a high powered flush. I guess they don’t want any DNA left which is fine by me! But when the water splashes up and hits me, it kind of defeats the purpose doesn’t it? I ask myself who designed this toilet? NASA? I could go on and on, but I will leave it at that.

How do you know that someone is in the military? I mean, when you look at them, what do you see that stands out? What is the difference between them and the common civilian? You might say “Well, they are dressed different! They go on deployments. They also keep themselves in physical shape.” My husband served in the United States Air Force and I became quite familiar with the differences. I remember visiting him upon his graduation from boot camp. He was allowed to go out on a pass with me for a few hours, so we chose to go to the movies. As he walked in the building, he removed his hat. He then explained to me that every time he enters a building, he must remove it.

After boot camp and tech school, we were stationed on a base in New Mexico where I noticed many other things. For instance, my husband would wake up very early to attend physical training and then go to work afterwards. It was a requirement. He could not say “Well, I don’t feel like working out this morning.” Nor could he say “I don’t want to go on a deployment. Can I just stay here on base where I do not have to go above and beyond? I just take care of this little area?” He would be in deep waters had he ever done that. Living on base had requirements of its own. Everyday the National Anthem would play at a certain time and no matter what you were doing, you had to stand in place with your hand over your heart until the song was over. These are only a few of the requirements. There are many more. However, had my husband not done these things, could he call himself a member of the military? Before the military, he did not do these things, but after, changes took place and he did them all without question. The military has very little tolerance for those who do not follow the codes of conduct.

In thinking about the military, it reminded me a lot of Christianity. Many people call themselves Christians, but how can you really tell if you are? There is a question that you can ask yourself to be certain. Ask yourself “Have changes taken place since I gave my life to God?” How you answer that question is pertinent to knowing if you are in a right place. At churches across America, many people walk up to the altar and say the sinners prayer. It is a powerful, emotional moment. However, what happens after that moment is the real question. Does change take place? Are you a real soldier in God’s army? Do you follow the code of conduct? Would people look at you and say that you are different than the common civilian?

You see, much like a member of the military, Christians are supposed to be different! The military has its own uniform just as Christianity does. Military members do not look the same, nor are they allowed to act the same. Did you know that adultery in the military is a punishable act? If a civilian commits this act, they may have some broken relationships, but in the majority of cases, they will still have a job at the end of the day. The military takes such offenses very seriously. They expect more from individuals who put on their uniform. Much like God expects more from his soldiers. He expects them to look, sound and act different from the rest of the world. If often times you have people say to you that they did not realize you were a Christian, that says a lot about your conduct. The Bible says in Matthew 7:16 “You will know them by their fruit.” In other words, God bears fruit while Satan bears thorns. Which do people see when they look at you, fruit or thorns? Do they notice that you are different, or do you look the same as before? Now I leave you with the
following verse: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

I really feel myself being prompted to type this, so take heed. Recently I found myself questioning God. I asked my husband “Why doesn’t God fix this situation? I have prayed. What am I doing wrong?” Lately, I have been on an emotional roller coaster. I have family members sick with diseases and I know that God has healed a countless number of people. I have read stories about families that could not explain how their loved one was healed of a disease that should have taken their life, but didn’t. All they could say was “God! God did it!” So why is it not happening for my loved one? Often times we as Christian’s will say

“Maybe it’s not God’s will.”

The defeated response, as my father calls it. Mind you, God does have a will. However, I have recently been reminded of something that we as Christians forget….God’s PROMISES! I had been feeling very down and a lady in a Bible study group I attend said “Look to his promises.” God said that if we asked, he would do it. So long as we have faith. How many times have you prayed for someone, yet doubted your own prayer? I have to say that I have MANY times doubted my prayer. Like Peter, we as Christian’s sink.

“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Being a Christian in a world full of evil is not an easy task. It’s easy to skate by as a Christian reading our Bibles….attending church and doing good works. However, where we lack is in our ability to reach out to the needy in pure faith. It’s easy to give someone money or food. However, it’s not easy to believe that God is going to heal someone with sickness. If God has called us in his word to do something, why then would he not come through? God says in his own word

“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.”

That is God’s promise to us. It is not God that is the problem. It is our lack of faith in his promises. It is our forgetfulness of his promises! Let us not be weaklings in Christ. In a world filled with evil, we must be strong warriors. We must use everything we have been equipped with…ESPECIALLY FAITH! If we as Christian’s don’t have faith in God’s word, than how can we expect others to? Jesus brought many people to him by healing the sick and performing miracles. He said the a prayer of faith shall heal the sick, so let’s get on it Christian’s. Let’s get out there and make our prayers count for something. It’s not enough to say “God loves you.” You need to show people his love! You are his vessel.  Let God use you to help others. That is our purpose, is it not? If your goal in life is to truly bring others to Christ, than spread his love through your actions. Don’t doubt God. Look to his promises. Say “God, I know you are faithful and true. You said if I believed, you would make it happen. So I’m trusting you to do that.” Remember, you don’t need to remind God of his promises. The reminder is for you.

Where I found God

I was just reading an article titled “How do I know the Bible is True.” Basically, the writer’s child had asked her a few tough questions concerning the Bible and her faith. The writer then goes on to explain how we as Christian’s can deal with this situation when it arises. It lead me to think of the time in my life when I realized that what I believed was more than something written in a book. Yes, there was a moment when I discerned for myself that I didn’t believe in Jesus Christ simply because it was something my parents “taught me.”

Often times Christian’s are labeled based on the denomination of the church they attend. However, a preacher at a church I attended said it best; “Just call me a Christian.” he said. I feel the same. Christians do not have “rituals.” We do not pray towards a certain direction, although I hope my prayers always go straight up, lol. In fact, we can pray at any time during the day because we know that God has not designated a specific time for prayer. He does not have to pencil us in. We have something that is so special with our God that it sets Christianity apart from all other religions. We have an actual RELATIONSHIP with the God we serve; much like a father and child.

So getting back to the moment when I realized God was not a spaghetti monster in the sky. As a child, I attended a Baptist church. During the services, the preacher would ask if anyone had prayer requests. Now, this was not the type of church where one would just sit in their seat and pray quietly. The person being prayed for would come to the front of the church and a group of elders would lay hands on that person and pray. So in this case, the person happened to be a girl named Casey. She was a few years older than me. Casey’s hearing had went out in one of her ears. I watched as people laid hands on Casey and in unison, prayed for her. After they finished, one of the men who had prayed leaned down and started whispering in the ear that was afflicted. I saw her shaking her head yes. “She can hear!” he said. Unbelievable! I thought to myself.

So many people can look at that incident and say “Well, she could have faked it.” They are right. She very well could have. However, that was only one incident in which I saw the power of God work for someone else. I haven’t yet explained how his power has worked in my own life. There was a time in my life when I felt very far from God. My husband had joined the military and I had become extremely depressed due to us being deployed far away from our home state and family. We did not start off well financially. I guess I expected that military life would help alleviate our financial burdens. However, in the beginning of our marriage, we didn’t pay attention to details . So it got to the point that our bank account was constantly being overdrawn. We didn’t realize there were so many hidden fees involved with having an account. So here we are with a fat little toddler baby, scraping by to make it. My husband was being sent to Florida for a training. I remember the discussion we had before him leaving. He was supposed to bring money for food, however, if he took the money than myself and our daughter would go without. I remember him saying that he wouldn’t eat. I had so much anxiety in the pit of my stomach. I didn’t want my husband to not eat. So he left for the trip and I just spent a lot of time crying. I didn’t know what to do. There was hardly any money in the bank account. I decided to watch a little television. I don’t know what drew me to the 700 Club. I always thought of that show as something my grandmother would watch. It had never been my cup of tea. However, there I sat, watching intently. There is a portion of the show where the speakers just pray for people. I remember breaking down and just praying along with them. I was so desperate. There was nothing left for me to do, so what could a prayer hurt? Well, it didn’t hurt me any. In fact, it was EXACTLY what I needed to do.I was completely broken. At that point in my life, I wasn’t sure if God heard my prayers, but I was going to give it a shot anyway.

I can’t remember if it was the same day, or the next, but at some point I felt compelled to check my bank account. I often checked my balance by phone. So I called to check it and there was money! I had no clue where it had come from. To this day, I don’t know. At that point, I don’t even think I cared where it came from because this meant we were ok. My husband called from Florida to check in and I remember telling him “You can eat. We have money.” I was so happy. I still get tears in my eyes just thinking back to that moment because I knew it was God. Before the prayer, nothing! After the prayer, something! Not only that, but Nick and I received help after that with organizing our bills. We were put in touch with a financial counselor and everything just started to fall into place. Why God? We didn’t deserve it. The truth is, none of us deserve it. Once you realize that you don’t deserve God’s grace, that is when you receive it. James 4:6 says

“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”Image

So that was a moment in which God worked in my life. That is only one of many. However, that was a very defining moment, because it was the first moment in my adult life where I really recognized that the same God that had healed the little girls hearing at my church, could heal my broken spirit. It was the first moment in my adult life where I knew he heard my prayers. How many people can say that they prayed and something happened because of it? I can.

So for me, it’s not hard to answer the questions about why I believe in God. Or why I am a Christian rather than any other “religion” in the world. I have seen numerous times the question posed “How do you know your religion is the right one?” I know because I see results. It’s not because I have been brainwashed into believing something that my parents before me believed as most insinuate. It’s not because I’m delusional and just haven’t been open to what others believe. It’s because God himself reached down into the trenches and pulled me out. Not because of my love for him, but because of his love for me. I am a daughter of the King of the most high! I am not perfect and never will be. However, he loves me anyway.

My children will ask the tough questions. I don’t want my children to be a part of a “religion.” I don’t want them believing something just because I believe it. God doesn’t want that either. He wants my children to have the same experience I had. He wants to show his love and mercy for them. So parent’s, do not worry about questions your children may ask. Have faith. At some point in your life, God showed up when you needed him. Unless your children are a different species, they will most likely have troublesome times in their lives as well. There will come a time when they need something more than what you can give them. There is where they will find God.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
